Determining Which Female Modelling Work is for You

The female modeling industry is large, it has numerous fields of work, it is cutthroat and it is difficult. Unlike most male modeling, female modeling can be quite a lucrative career as females tend to make almost four times as much as males in the industry. Namely, because the female industry gets a much larger amount of attention from the press. It is why there are so many household female names that we know of, but there is one important note to make about the female modeling industry: once you hit twenty-five, work will be harder to find. However, if you are young and want to be a model, make sure you have the following characteristics:
·       Thin and tall if you want to be a catwalk model.
·       Confident and determined.
·       Healthy looking with a proportionate body shape.
·       Good posture and fabulous angles.
·       A height between 5’8” and 5’11” although shorter models may carve out a niche for themselves.
·       Symmetrical and angular face with good bone structure.
·       Naturally photogenic.
·       A strong walk (especially for runway).
·       Those who are “overweight” may find work as a plus sized model.

Now if you don’t meet all of the above requirements, don’t fret. There are many modeling jobs that will still take you if you have the look that they need or desire. It just means that you may end up in a different market then you first thought.

Types of Female Modeling and What They Entail

There are many different types of modeling that call for different types of looks, builds, and talents. A high fashion model will need to be able to wear different trends easily, whereas a catwalk model will need to be able to show off different designs with natural confidence and ease. As with male modeling, the types of modeling that are in the industry include:
·       Catwalk models will need to meet the height restriction. This means that you need to be at least 5’8” for you to be able to break into the market. Any shorter than that and unfortunately you won’t be considered at all. You will also need to have a lean build so that you can fit the high fashion clothing. A structured jaw, clear complexion and striking features are often what agencies will look for when interviewing catwalk models. As a catwalk model you will be showing off and promoting different fashion brands, which means you would work with famous fashion houses and designers.

·       High fashion print models are often required to meet the 5’8” height requirement, but you can get lucky with some agencies as they will take shorter models. You will need to have a lean build and be able to fit into different types of fashion trends.

·       A catalogue model has more relaxed requirements since they represent the general population in their catalogue (online or print) shoots. This means that different ages, sizes and heights will be considered for the work.

·       A fitness model will need to be exceptionally toned and promote a healthy body and lifestyle. For instance, your muscle definition must look realistic and you must be in the best shape possible. You will either represent different athletic apparel, equipment for health foods.

·       Commercial models will end up representing the face of a company, or advertise a certain service. This means that there are a lot of work in the field since many different types of looks are desired by different companies.

·       Promotional modelling only requires that the model is well groomed and professional. In this field you may work at trade shows, conventions, work in shopping centers or work with the general public.

·       Glamour modelling has no height restrictions but does require you to be over the age of eighteen. You will need to have a curvy, toned physique and a lot of confidence to become a glamour model as this type of work is often provocative.

·       Plus size modelling will require you to be between a size twelve and sixteen and your figure needs to be proportionate. With this type of modelling, a great personality and resilience helps greatly when securing jobs. You will mostly find work that is either promotional or commercial.

Making a Living as a Female Model

For new models starting their careers, the average amount that they make can be anywhere between $30,000-50,000 according to Chron. However, since the female modelling industry is so big, that they opportunity to make more than that is definitely there. There are a lot of female models in the industry who make millions per year based on their career.

Modelling Agencies London UK

Castings   Ideally, the client will contact the modelling agency with their requirements, the agency will select the best model for the job, and that’s that. Unfortunately, it’s rarely as simple as that. There can be many stages involved in selecting a model for a job, and a model has to be responsive and prepared at each stage to avoid missing out. The Go See or Casting This is the first stage of potentially getting a modelling job. It’s critical to respond to the casting call as quickly as possible, because jobs are sometimes cast within hours, and the client may simply select the first model to respond. Before you respond, you probably want to find out if you even want the job – this may seem like a no brainer, but its worth double checking when and where the shoot is, how much it pays and what the requirements are. You may discover it clashes with another job, or that the pay is simply too low to make it worthwhile. However, if you decide you do want to a...

Modelling Agencies and model Jobs

Modelling Agencies and Model Jobs So, you’d like to become a model, but you don’t really know what’s involved in modelling jobs ? Well, almost all modelling jobs start with a casting (unless you’re a household name like Kate Moss or Claudia Schiffer). This is where several models are invited to be viewed and possibly interviewed by the client, and there may be some test shots. Based on the casting, the client will select his preferred models for the final shoot. On the day of the shoot, the model will have instructions about whether to come ‘clean’ faced or made up, and whether he or she should bring any particular types of clothing or accessories. On arrival, if it’s a big shoot, there could be a whole team available to dress and style the model, including hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist.  Modelling jobs   can be in studios or on location. Everything is much easier to control in dedicated studios, whereas if shoots are on location, t...

Modelling Jobs

How Much Models Makes  This is a difficult question to answer and it’s tempting to say – how long is a piece of string? But of course, there are some guidelines and rules of thumb that we can apply to give a rough idea of how much models might earn. At the lower end, you have your models who are just starting out. They are trying to make a name for themselves, so they’ll probably earn just over minimum wage, and they won’t get work more than a couple of times a month, while they’re building their portfolio. Once the new model has become a bit more established, then they will start getting more regular work and can start commanding a higher fee. At this point, it makes a big difference what type of modelling the model wants to do, and how often they are willing and able to work. For example, if the model is suitable for high fashion shows (i.e. they meet the strict height requirements), then they could earn £500 – £1000 for a single weekend....
