First Step Modelling interview

First Step Modelling Services Include: Digital & Print, Model training & Support

As with any job you will be required to have a CV (curriculum vitae), which is a summary of your skills, education and experience. Your portfolio becomes this for you and is crucial to gaining work as a budding model. Essentially, it is a collection of professional images that are used to land you castings. Portfolios need to show off your natural ability, your confidence, and display something about you. It is important that you have excellent images versus average ones. By doing a photoshoot with First Step Modelling, we can provide you with an invaluable asset and investment into your career. We offer two types of portfolios:

·       Digital: The images from your photoshoot will either be put on a web page or can be copied onto a CD disc. With First Step Modelling, we do a photoshoot with you and then you will buy the copyright for us so that you can use them commercially, over and over again.

·       Print: We recommend getting a print portfolio of both headshots and full body shots if you plan on taking it to castings. This is crucial for those who are new to modelling as many clients will look through your portfolio if they have not worked with you before. A printed book will have ten A4 retouched images of you. We can either do a photoshoot with you, or help you develop it.

We also offer those who register with us, the option to buy Z-cards and e-folios. A z-card is your business card which should be given out to prospective clients and agencies. We will have 4-6 different images printed onto the cards with your stats (height, weight, measurements, shoe size and contact information).  E-folios, on the other hand, are an on-line portfolio that is used as a marketing tool. Essentially, it is a personalized website that showcases your best professional images and stats. It is perfect if you want to self-promote and works well for those who want to do freelance modelling as talent scouts and photographers can contact you directly.

Modelling Agencies London UK

Castings   Ideally, the client will contact the modelling agency with their requirements, the agency will select the best model for the job, and that’s that. Unfortunately, it’s rarely as simple as that. There can be many stages involved in selecting a model for a job, and a model has to be responsive and prepared at each stage to avoid missing out. The Go See or Casting This is the first stage of potentially getting a modelling job. It’s critical to respond to the casting call as quickly as possible, because jobs are sometimes cast within hours, and the client may simply select the first model to respond. Before you respond, you probably want to find out if you even want the job – this may seem like a no brainer, but its worth double checking when and where the shoot is, how much it pays and what the requirements are. You may discover it clashes with another job, or that the pay is simply too low to make it worthwhile. However, if you decide you do want to a...

Modelling Agencies and model Jobs

Modelling Agencies and Model Jobs So, you’d like to become a model, but you don’t really know what’s involved in modelling jobs ? Well, almost all modelling jobs start with a casting (unless you’re a household name like Kate Moss or Claudia Schiffer). This is where several models are invited to be viewed and possibly interviewed by the client, and there may be some test shots. Based on the casting, the client will select his preferred models for the final shoot. On the day of the shoot, the model will have instructions about whether to come ‘clean’ faced or made up, and whether he or she should bring any particular types of clothing or accessories. On arrival, if it’s a big shoot, there could be a whole team available to dress and style the model, including hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist.  Modelling jobs   can be in studios or on location. Everything is much easier to control in dedicated studios, whereas if shoots are on location, t...

Modelling Jobs

How Much Models Makes  This is a difficult question to answer and it’s tempting to say – how long is a piece of string? But of course, there are some guidelines and rules of thumb that we can apply to give a rough idea of how much models might earn. At the lower end, you have your models who are just starting out. They are trying to make a name for themselves, so they’ll probably earn just over minimum wage, and they won’t get work more than a couple of times a month, while they’re building their portfolio. Once the new model has become a bit more established, then they will start getting more regular work and can start commanding a higher fee. At this point, it makes a big difference what type of modelling the model wants to do, and how often they are willing and able to work. For example, if the model is suitable for high fashion shows (i.e. they meet the strict height requirements), then they could earn £500 – £1000 for a single weekend....
